Makgadikgadi Pans National Park and Nxai Pans National Park are Botswana’s only true pan ecologies outside the Kalahari, remnants of a massive ancient lake that once covered central Botswana and now forms part of the Okavango Delta. This region experiences seasonal flooding, beginning with torrential rains from Angola, which fuel rivers like the Okavango, Kwando, Linyanti, and Zambezi, creating a dynamic delta ecosystem that supports diverse wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, and unique wetland species like the sitatunga. The Moremi Game Reserve, located along the Delta's eastern edge, protects diverse habitats and is known for abundant big game, especially during the dry season. Nearby, Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, spans 1,700 meters with five sections, reaching peak flow in March and April. The falls, linked by the historic Zambezi River, form a border between Zambia and Zimbabwe and attract visitors year-round for their unmatched spectacle and adventure activities.
