Originally a military base, Muizenberg became a prestigious seaside resort for affluent Capetonians at the beginning of the 20th century and the grand mansions along the beach promenade are monuments of its former wealth. Nowadays a rather mixed crowd comes together in Muizenberg but it still has its stunning wide sand beaches, turquoise-blue water and one of the bays best sheltered from the wind on the Cape Peninsula, ideal for surfing and for children alike. The colorful wooden changing cabins lining the white sand beach are a popular photo motif for fashion shoots.
