The Hotel das Cataratas is located in the middle of the jungle of Iguaçu National Park, alongside Iguaçu Falls. There are 195 colonial, conservative bedrooms and suites, each with complete bathrooms with showers. There is a large swimming pool, extensive gardens famous for rare orchids, and several restaurants and bars that include live, daily music.

The hotel was built shortly after the creation of the national park in 1939 but its opening was delayed, because of World War II. It opened to great fanfare in 1958, nearly 20 years after building commenced. By then Iguassu Falls was becoming known and the Brazilian government forbid any other hotels within the national park borders.

Several major renovations have been undertaken since the opening, and today the hotel is fully modern and trying hard to retain its original colonial decor. The hotel tour desk is the region’s booking agent for all Brazilian side touring, including guided sightseeing, boat tours, fishing trips and adventure sports activities. There are no other hotels on the Brazilian side, and the town and airport are about a half hour away.
