Chobe National Park is Botswana’s largest, but there are only two relatively small areas where accommodation is found, in the far north and far south. Savute Safari Lodge is in the far south near the Moremi Game Reserve. Located on the Savute Channel, the camp thrives as one of the best places in all of Botswana for big game when the channel is flowing. When it isn’t flowing game is still good but not exceptional is when it is. In both cases, a variety of antelope like roan and sable might be seen that will not be seen in either the Delta or Moremi, and even when the channel is not flowing there are still water holes and small ponds around that attract very large numbers of elephant. The lodge is one of the more comfortable but not glamorous luxury lodges in the area. There are 12 thatched chalets very warmly furnished, making it one of the more welcoming camps of the owners’ half dozen in Botswana. The public areas are divided into two stories, allowing for a nice view from the top’s deck. Dining is al fresco, there is a lounge and bar and library. A good-sized swimming pool sits right over the channel often attracting local game. All activities land-based game viewing in open Landrovers.
